How did it all start? How did these clowns become members of Parliament? A few years ago they founded a new political party. Its members were Lithuanian show business celebrities. For us, Lithuanians, it was just a joke. I believe for them at first it was just a joke too… But surprise! They were quite successful in the elections of Parliament.
Did Lithuanians truly believe that these celebrities can govern Lithuania? I don’t think so. I believe that voting for them was people’s protest against traditional political parties.
So here are some photos of members of Parliament in Lithuania:
Arunas Valinskas. He had a popular show on TV and was a presenter in occasional TV shows and awards. After he was elected to parliament, he looked surprised and he said he won’t try to become the Speaker, but… later he was the Speaker of Parliament in Lithuania for a while.
Zilvinas Silgalis on a dance show was wearing a cow’s costume. It was not before, but after he was elected to Parliament. There were many discussions in Lithuania if it is ethical for the member of Parliament to dance in cow’s costume on TV show…
Antanas Nedzinskas. He was known as a strange character before he was elected to Parliament. He is still… a strange person. Before the election of municipality this February he had a fake wedding… Of course, it was a successful advertising campaign, but a huge scandal when journalist found out that the wedding was just a play…
Asta Baukutė. She was an actress.
Donalda Meizelyte. Famous TV face.
Linas Karalius. Also known as Ezopas. He was a member of band called ZAS in the past. Here is a video of their popular song. Ezopas is a guy shown at the very beginning of this video. This song is from the later period of band history. The beginning of ZAS was not pop music, but music with many curses…
Linas Karalius is no longer a member of Parliament. He was eliminated because he was involved in a few scandals: travelled in Asia when he had to be attending meetings in Parliament, also he had something to do with donating state budget money to his mothers company. After he was thrown away from Parliament he talked that maybe he will find some other job in Parliament, but he couldn’t get any other job there because he has no university degree. Not good enough to be an office-boy, but he was a member of Parliament…
Lithuania is a wonderland... What else can I say…

WOW!!! Parliament members posing naked? I am glad that doesn't happen here in the U.S. I wouldn't want to see any of them naked! :)
Great Blog!
Great blog. Used to live in Riga and have lots and lots of fond memories of travelling around Lithuania.
Steve, it was before they were elected... But still for me it's hard to believe that Lithuanians voted for them...
Michael, did you like Latvia or Lithuania better?
I am a bit worried about that chicken! One one hand, I am very glad she is there. On the other hand, I am wondering what she is DOING there? Poor little chicken.
Gene, when I read your comment, I looked closer at the photo and now I am worried too :DDD
